Functional Area

Definition: The Functional Area indicates where the problem occurred in the system, and is useful in searching for duplicate bugs.

Caution: Keep this field separate from Issue Type by monitoring your drop-down values for compliance with the definition.

Functional Areas will vary a great deal between projects or products, because the overlap will typically be quite small. Even though the values for a drop-down list for Functional Area will differ, the definition and purpose of the field still remains consistent.

By tracking Functional Area, the QA group can identify areas of the product which are having the greatest number of issues and which areas represent the greatest risk.
